Avoid the COLD in your CALLING

Cold Calling has been the one source of initial contact for recruiters, especially Third Party recruiters for decades. With technology and innovation redefining the whole recruitment process, a major chunk of the recruiter community still cling on to the traditional way of getting introduced to a candidate, out of blue, over phone. A tradition that was started off by the sales and marketing professionals.

But the hard truth remains that no one, or at least a larger half of the population; do not encourage a phone call from a stranger. Yes, cold calling is so not the way to get going with a candidate. Having said that, I do completely admit that not all cold calls would bounce off. You might taste some success. Again it is some success only. As a third party recruiter, is it really worth wasting your time, effort and your client's money just because you opted the wrong channel of communication???

However, directly calling up a candidate cannot be completely ruled out. It is the " Do I know you" stigma that we need to overcome. The simplest way to achieve it is to get introduced through some other channel before you pick up the phone. Some of the options are an Inmail or message through LinkedIn, getting introduced through a common connection, sharing thoughts on discussions, directly sending an email etc. Once the candidate is acquainted with you or is expecting a call from you, your calls no longer goes cold. Besides you can also be confident that you are welcome at the other end.

Happy recruiting :)
